The back story and proof... [updated on 8/20]

This blog is about Steve Juliano, from I Am Ghost/Requiem for the Dead.

For some links to get you familiar with him read this post.

Overall:
  • Steve Juliano was offering drawings for tattoos to fans of his band, I Am Ghost
  • I contacted him to discuss an idea
  • We agreed on the price of $50
  • I sent the check and my contact information
  • He cashed the check
  • I never got my sketch
  • He started ignoring my emails
The Details

This all started in November of 2009. At the time, I had been looking for the perfect zombie picture for a tattoo. Steve Juliano posted a blog promoting his graphic novel project, Lovers and Kings. I got excited--an artist from one of my favorite bands could draw up my tattoo! I emailed him right away, told him my ideas, we emailed back and forth for quite a bit. Then I sent him the check for 50 dollars. Six days later, the check was cashed. Eventually, his responses took longer..were shorter..then nothing at all. He would tell me he got busy, but they were coming. He hadn't started, but I would get them. Weeks would go by, and I would have no idea where my sketches were.

Eventually, I had my friend email him. She had met him a few times, and thought maybe he would respond to her message. He did respond, apologized for the confusion, and asked for my email, saying he would get in touch with me to get everything straightened out. That never happened, he never tried to get in contact with me.

I continued to email him, and I would get no response. When I sent the check, I sent along all of my information, as he asked, but he didn't attempt to contact me in any other way. I knew he had to be reading them, because he was posting other bulletins promoting other stuff, and included his email address.

After getting frustrated with quite a long time with no response, the same friend told me to get in contact with a man close to the band, we'll call him 'Exhibit A'. I messaged him, told him what had happened, and he told me I wasn't the only one, and that I wasn't seeing that money OR the sketches again.

Now whether you believe me or not, is up to you, but everything I have said is 100% true. I know a lot of his fans will probably attack me for this, but that's okay. I'm trying to raise awareness so nobody else can get screwed over. It's horrible for him to be treating his fans like this.

- Mostly every blog after this will be about stuff I could have bought if he didn't steal $50 from me.
:)

THE CHECK PROOF:

I called my bank and they sent me a copy of the check:

So you can see he cashed the check six days after I sent it to him.

The solution to this issue is simple. Send me my $50 back.

I wouldn't say your cash is hard earned...

More like "Spending all my stolen cash on comic books and bubble gum...."

We might be getting somewhere?

So, Stole My Benjamin, actually received a message from Steve saying all of her money will be paid out. Hopefully he does the right thing and does refund it. And, hopefully I'm next.

We got another complaint about Steve, though:

"Steve stole $100 from me in 2009. I sent him money via paypal for a sketch for a tattoo and after he received the money he started to ignore my emails. I saw him at a show and went to talk to him. He said he was working on it, but I never received anything.

Another Victim

While I'm not surprised, I'm sad to learn that I wasn't the only fan that Steve Juliano stole from. Steve also stole $100 from another fan who also decided it was time to speak out. Please read her story here and help spread the word: http://stolemybenjamin.blogspot.com/

We encourage all fans who got ripped off to talk about their stories. We've all accepted that we'll likely never see our money again, but we can help others avoid giving money to Steve in exchange for none of the things he promised. A lot of people used to look up to Steve, which makes every single one of these cases even more heart breaking.

Here is another trap:
We understand that fans like physical copies of the music they love, but we urge you not to send any money to Steve Juliano or Requiem For The Dead. Unfortunately your chances of actually receiving the CD (or art) you're sending money for are extremely low.

Thank you to everyone who has helped spread the word so far. Please continue to do so. With your help we can save people some money and disappointment. No one likes to be ripped off.

Also, I got my zombie tattoo..

and I feel like my tattoo artist deserves some credit, because he's awesome and did an amazing job, AND I didn't have to wait forever for him to sketch it for me! :)

With $50 dollars I could have..

made 142 calls on a payphone, in the late '90s, and still have .30 cents in change left over.
